There are many ways that electrical cords can be safely stored. Here are a few methods to get started with:

  • Spool – Similar to a spool of thread, a cord can be wrapped around a cylinder or rod and kept tidy inside a bin.
  • Simple Loop – Mount a heavy-duty hook onto the wall of your storage area. Then carefully create a loop, ensuring that the circle size remains consistent. Hang the cord loop from the hook and repeat this for each extension cord. Make sure that the hook you use can safely hold the weight of a large electrical cord.
  • Daisy Chain – A daisy chain is a classic technique that has been used by electricians and handy homeowners for ages. Simply find both ends of the cord and fold them in half so that each side is parallel to the other. Locate the center and tie a loose overhand knot. Reach through the loop and grab the next section of cord, pull it through the loop and create another circle in the chain. Repeat the process again and again until you reach the end. Carefully wrap the plug end of the cord around the last loop to keep it from unraveling.
  • Hanger – Belt and tie hangers can be very helpful for organizing electrical cords. Once you have wrapped your cord, each bundle can be placed on a separate hook on the hanger. This is a great solution for those who have a small storage area.
